On December 19, 2007, Denebola reported about secret security cameras that were installed at Newton South High School. This story, which was held for a month to obtain comment from Principal Brian Salzer, raised controversy and media attention.
First, Newton's local newspaper, The Newton Tab, published an article on their website, with The Boston Globe soon to follow. Local divisions of NBC, ABC, and CBS television networks were also interested.
In order to accommodate the mainstream media's increasing requests for information, Denebola senior editors resolved to host an official press conference at the Denebola office.
